A Bath man has been charged with felony criminal possession of stolen property following a joint investigation by the Steuben County Sheriff’s Office, the Bath Police Department, the Steuben County Department of Social Services Fraud and Legal Affairs Unit, and the Steuben County District Attorney’s Office.
It is alleged that on September 26th, Gerard Hoens used another person’s benefit card issued by the county’s Department of Social Services. As a result, Hoens obtained benefits he was not entitled to nor authorized to receive.
Hoens is charged with misuse of food stamps, petit larceny, and criminal possession of stolen property, a felony.
The 60-year-old Hoens was released following his arraignment.
The fact that a defendant has been charged with a crime is merely an accusation and the defendant is presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty.
