Steuben County Sheriff Jim Allard reports the arrest of a Bath man on multiple felony charges related to welfare fraud and theft.
On Monday, investigators arrested 24-year-old Terry Long III. Authorities say that between May 27 and July 31, 2025, Long submitted a false instrument to the Steuben County Department of Social Services and received $1,039 in benefits he was not eligible to collect.
Long has been charged with offering a false instrument for filing in the first degree, falsifying business records in the first degree, welfare fraud in the fourth degree, and grand larceny in the fourth degree, all class E felonies. He was released on an appearance ticket and is scheduled to return to Village of Bath Court.
Sheriff Allard thanked the Steuben County Department of Social Services Fraud and Legal Affairs Unit, along with the District Attorney’s Office, for their assistance in the investigation.
The fact that a defendant has been charged with a crime is merely an accusation, and the defendant is presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty.
