On Wednesday, members of the Village of Bath Police Department arrested a local man after observing him allegedly violate a full stay-away order of protection. Officers were patrolling the West Morris Street area at approximately 12:52 p.m. when they witnessed Matthew Machuga, 27, make contact with a protected party.
Police, who were already familiar with the individuals and the existing court order, took Machuga into custody without incident. He was transported to the Village of Bath Police Department for processing and charged with one count of Criminal Contempt in the Second Degree and one count of Aggravated Family Offense.
While in custody, Machuga received medical care at a local hospital before being transported to the Steuben County Jail for a Centralized Arraignment Part court appearance.
According to authorities, Machuga is a two-time convicted felon in New York State and was recently released from prison. He is currently under the supervision of the New York State Department of Corrections and Community Supervision. Machuga remains incarcerated in the Steuben County Jail, and parole officials have been notified of the arrest.
The fact that a defendant has been charged with a crime is merely an accusation and the defendant is presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty.
