An Aurelius woman has been arrested following an investigation into child neglect.
According to the Cayuga County Sheriff’s Office, Grace Shepard contacted 911 on October 2 to report her three-month-old child going in and out of consciousness. Following a joint investigation by the sheriff’s office, AMR Ambulance, Child Protective Services, and the Children’s Advocacy Center in Auburn, the child was medically evaluated and ultimately placed into foster care.
The 27-year-old was arrested Wednesday and charged with Endangering the Welfare of a Child. Shepard was arraigned and released to appear in Aurelius Town Court at a later date.
The fact that a defendant has been charged with a crime is merely an accusation and the defendant is presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty.
