An Auburn woman has been arrested on felony charges after police say she stole a purse and used the victim’s credit and debit cards to make purchases around the city.
The Auburn Police Department reports that 41-year-old Jennifer Travis was arrested on Wednesday on an outstanding warrant issued out of Auburn City Court.
The case began on May 22, when police received a report that a purse had been stolen from a city residence. Investigators learned that unauthorized charges were later made at several Auburn businesses using the victim’s cards.
Police say Travis, an acquaintance of the victim who had regular access to the residence, was identified as a suspect. Surveillance footage allegedly showed her making purchases with the stolen cards.
Travis was charged with felony criminal possession of stolen property and taken to the Cayuga County Jail to await arraignment.
The fact that a defendant has been charged with a crime is merely an accusation, and the defendant is presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty.
