Auburn police say a traffic stop early Wednesday morning led to the arrest of a man and the recovery of a stolen handgun.
Around 3 a.m., officers pulled over a vehicle near Murray Street and identified the driver as Lonnie Bradford, the only person inside. During the stop, police say Bradford told officers he had a firearm.
When Bradford refused to get out of the vehicle, officers attempted to remove him, resulting in a brief struggle. Police say he was eventually taken into custody, and a loaded handgun was recovered from the driver’s seat. Investigators later determined the gun had been stolen from out of state.
Bradford is charged with multiple felonies, including two counts of criminal possession of a weapon and criminal possession of stolen property, as well as resisting arrest. He was taken to Auburn Police Headquarters and later arraigned in Auburn City Court.
The fact that a defendant has been charged with a crime is merely an accusation, and the defendant is presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty.
