Auburn Mother and Son Arrested After Violent Assault

SHARE NOW

An Auburn mom and son are facing charges after police investigated a fight complaint on Columbus Street in the city.

During the course of the investigation, it was learned that Jacob VanFleet went to the victim’s residence, allegedly violating an order of protection. VanFleet is accused of forcing his way into the enclosed porch of the residence by intentionally damaging the outside door. Once inside, VanFleet began yelling at the victim through a locked interior door.

The father of the victim showed up at the residence, which allegedly resulted in VanFleet assaulting him. As VanFleet hit the father in the back of his head, Jacob’s mother, Julie VanFleet, allegedly jumped onto the father’s back, causing him to fall to the ground. As the father was on the ground, police say Jacob VanFleet kicked him in the face, specifically his left eye, causing the victim’s eye to swell almost completely shut. VanFleet is then accused of punching the second victim’s car, leaving multiple dents.

When an officer arrived on scene, Jacob VanFleet resisted arrested while his mother obstructed her son being taken into custody by pushing the officer. The officer was able to gain control of the situation and placed both VanFleet’s into custody.

Julie VanFleet was charged with obstructing governmental administration and harassment. She was released on an apperance ticket.

Jacob VanFleet was charged with assault, criminal mischief and resisting arrest. He was brought to Cayuga County Jail and was being held pending CAP arraignment

The fact that a defendant has been charged with a crime is merely an accusation and the defendant is presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty.
