Cayuga County Sheriff Brian Schenck says an Auburn man has been charged in connection with a theft at Bass Pro Shops earlier this month.
Deputies arrested 30-year-old Chad Jennings on November 19 and charged him with fourth-degree grand larceny, a felony. The charge stems from a November 5 incident in which Jennings and another man allegedly stole three lithium marine batteries from the store. Investigators say the pair removed security devices and left without paying. The stolen items were valued at $1,429.97.
Jennings was already being held at the Cayuga County Jail on an unrelated charge when he was identified as a suspect. He remains in custody on the new larceny charge.
A warrant has been issued for the second suspect, who has not yet been located.
The fact that a defendant has been charged with a crime is merely an accusation, and the defendant is presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty.
