Auburn Man Charged After Trail Cameras Capture Theft

SHARE NOW

A Cayuga County man is facing charges after deputies say he stole trail cameras that recorded the crime as it happened.

The Sheriff’s Office says Phillip Daniels, of Auburn, was arrested Friday morning and charged with petit larceny. Deputies were called around 9:15 a.m. to East Genesee Street Road, where a hunter reported several trail cameras missing from trees near the Sennett Meadows Apartments.

According to investigators, the cameras were equipped to send live video and photos to the owner, capturing the 67-year-old Daniels in the act. Deputies say he was quickly identified and found with the stolen equipment.

Daniels was released with an appearance ticket and is scheduled to appear in Sennett Town Court.

The fact that a defendant has been charged with a crime is merely an accusation, and the defendant is presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty.
