Auburn Man Accused in Three Separate Crimes

SHARE NOW

Auburn Police have made an arrest following the investigation of multiple crimes being committed by the same person.

The first incident happened on January 29th when Steven Confer allegedly entered an enclosed porch to a home on North Lewis Street and stole a pair of Air Jordan sneakers. A witness took video of the theft and followed Confer on foot. After being confronted by the woman, Confer turned the sneakers over to her.

On February 7th, Confer took a cab to the Home Depot. After being inside for just a few minutes, Confer came out of the store with a cart full of tools. He then asked the cab driver to take him to the Pawn King, where he pawned the tools off. Police say Confer provided identification at Pawn King and signed official documents swearing the items were not stolen. The Home Depot’s Asset Protection later confirmed over $1,000 in tools had been stolen on February 7th and 8th.

Last Friday, State Parole advised Auburn Police they had a warrant for Confer’s arrest. An Auburn Police Officer was checking 42 North Fulton Street when he saw Confer through a window. He yelled to Confer that he was under arrest. Confer then allegedly ran away from the window and his under a pile of clothing. Several officers responded and set up a perimeter. Confer was eventually taken into custody without incident.

For the first incident, Confer has been charged with felony burglary and misdemeanor petit larceny. He was charged with two felony counts of falsifying business records for the incident at Pawn King and was charged with resisting arrest from Friday’s incident.

The fact that a defendant has been charged with a crime is merely an accusation and the defendant is presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty.
