On Thursday, members of the Cayuga County Sheriff’s Office arrested an Auburn man following an investigation into illegal items found within the county jail. Joseph Montesano, 29, was taken into custody after authorities established probable cause regarding his possession of unauthorized materials while incarcerated.
The investigation, which began in March 2026, focused on allegations that Montesano was unlawfully in possession of contraband while held at the Cayuga County Jail. Following the completion of the probe, Montesano was charged with Promoting Prison Contraband in the Second Degree.
Montesano is scheduled to be arraigned at the Centralized Arraignment Part court later this evening.
The fact that a defendant has been charged with a crime is merely an accusation and the defendant is presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty.
