The 21-year-old driver whose BMW smashed into two cars in downtown Auburn in January has been charged.
Joel Rusin turned himself in on Saturday and was charged with driving while intoxicated, leaving the scene of an accident, reckless driving, and speeding. He was also charged with criminal mischief, failure to keep right, and driving while impaired by drugs and alcohol. The charges were delayed because the New York State Police Crime Lab had to test Rusin’s blood.
According to the police, Rusin was drinking at Swaby’s Tavern on South Street before leaving the bar at a high speed, losing control of his BMW, and hitting two parked cars on East Genessee Street.
