A 20-year-old is facing charges after a serious motor vehicle accident last month in Cayuga County.
According to the Cayuga County Sheriff’s Office, deputies responded to Lasher Road in the Town of Mentz around 4:30a on November 5 where they found that a vehicle travelling south had crossed into the northbound lane before leaving the roadway and colliding with several trees resulting in substantial damage to the vehicle. The driver and sole occupant, William Sanderson, was taken via ambulance to Upstate Hospital for his injuries.
Once a toxicology report determined he had been under the influence of alcohol at the time of the crash, Sanderson was charged with two counts of Driving While Intoxicated and other traffic violations. He is scheduled to appear in Mentz Town Court on December 11.
The sheriff’s office was assisted at the scene by the Port Byron Fire Department, AMR Ambulance, and the Cayuga County E-911 Center.
