About Larry Timko

Since March 2021, Larry has brought his rebel radio ways to the Finger Lakes Radio Group. He’s now closer to his roots—and much farther from hurricanes, gators, and Jessica Simpson songs. He's still on a mission to introduce unsuspecting listeners to music that isn’t auto-tuned within an inch of its life. And yes, he still dreams of flipping a corporate station to all-Americana, even if that makes consultants break out in hives.

After 22 years of taming the airwaves below the Mason-Dixon Line, Larry  came home—armed with a Marconi Award, a Rolodex full of roots royalty, and a deep, abiding hatred of playing Jessica Simpson on country radio. A proud Batavia High grad (, Larry cut his teeth in Atlanta before spending two decades holding down the afternoon drive on Florida’s WIKX Kix Country—where he once literally had the roof blown off while on-air during Hurricane Charley. (Spoiler: He kept broadcasting.)

Larry’s alter ego emerges every Saturday night when he transforms from mild-mannered morning DJ into the fearless champion of banjos, fiddles, and all things Americana on his show Down Home Cookin’. He’s interviewed everyone from Marty Stuart to Rosanne Cash, all from a humble steel pole building with worse insulation than a Styrofoam cooler.

Now holding court at the FLX Local Media since 2021, Larry T continues his mission: sneaking Loretta Lynn onto the playlist, fighting the good fight for underdog artists, and convincing listeners that Chris Knight belongs on the radio more than that guy who opened for Taylor Swift one time. He may be one man, but with a radio transmitter of outlaw spirit behind him, he’s a one-man roots revolution.
