William (Bill) Charles Cox
William (Bill) Charles Cox, 92, passed peacefully into the loving arms of Jesus, surrounded by his loving family on Friday, May 15, 2026.
Bill was born on December 13, 1933, in Auburn, NY. He was the son of Charles and Bessie Cox. Bill grew up in Auburn and moved to Scipio when he was 10 years old. Bill started driving truck with his Dad at the age of 14. He graduated from Sherwood School. He served in the Navy in the Seabees division of the US Naval Construction Forces from 1953 to 1955. It was in the Navy where he received his training in auto mechanics. He owned and operated the Scipioville Garage for 70 years.
Bill married Marilyn Gamlen on August 24, 1957. She was the love of his life. They enjoyed 68 years together. Bill is survived by his wife, Marilyn Cox. He leaves behind four daughters: Linda Hallett (Jeffrey); Dawn Bernholz; Karen Phillips (Roger); Connie Armstrong; nine grandchildren: Christopher Ryan, Samantha Bernholz, Jason Bobbett, Elyse Hallett, Debbie Hallett, Andrew Hallett, Nathan Bobbett, Victoria Armstrong, and Luke Armstrong; two great-grandchildren: Jameson and Juniper Bobbett; and many nieces and nephews. He is predeceased by two sons-in-law, Scott Bobbett and Milo Towne, and a grandson, Sean Ryan.
He loved spending time with his family, and every season he would travel to various destinations such as Wildwood, NJ; Myrtle Beach, SC; Atlantic Beach, NC; Blue Ridge Mountain Parkway, NC; Skyline Drive, VA; Old Forge, NY; and countless Monroe Muffler trips that afforded him and his wife many trips abroad.
Bill enjoyed snowmobiling, hiking, 4-wheeling, swimming, boogie boarding in the ocean, flying kites, bike trips to get ice cream, playing guitar for his family, sitting at the fire in 'clam corner' for cookouts, as well as line dancing, round dancing, and square dancing. Dad loved to dance.
Bill will be remembered for his sense of humor, kindness, compassion, strong work ethic, moral values, and his belief in God and family.
Calling hours will be Friday, May 29, from 2-4 PM; the funeral will be Saturday, May 30, at 1 PM, both at Scipio Community Church at 3434 State Route 34, Scipio Center, NY 13147.
