William G. Ball
Savannah: Passed away at home on Sunday, May 15th, age 87.
Born July 17, 1923, he was the son of William H. and Nellie Raymond Ball. William is survived by his wife of 61 years, Ann Buettner Ball; daughter Deborah (Robert) Wright of Savannah; sons William Jr. (Jeanne Bailey) of Savannah, James (Julia) of Savannah, Mark (Kevin) of New York City, Thomas and Michael both of Savannah; grandchildren Rob (Brenda) Wright of Tampa, FL, Amanda Wright D.C. of Gibsonville, NC, Patrick (Heather) Wright of Savannah, Jesse Ball of Savannah, and Jamie Ball of Lyons; great-grandchildren Rachel, Riley, Raizel, Dylan, and Sarah; sister Ruth TenEyck; numerous nieces and nephews. Bill was predeceased by sister Eugenia Black and brothers Arthur Mahoney and LaVerne Ball.
William was retired from Goulds Pumps in Seneca Falls, where he was a member of the Quarter Century Club, was a 60+ year member of the Savannah Volunteer Fire Department. He loved gardening, making wine, and cooking out in his playhouse with the guys. He was a lifelong boater and fisherman whose friends affectionately nicknamed him Captain Bilgewater. He also cooked corned beef and cabbage for over 30 years for St. Patrick's Day celebrations as well as other locations in downtown Savannah.
Family and friends are invited to call on Thursday from 2-4 & 7-9 p.m. at the Norton Funeral Home, 13081 West Church Street in Savannah, where his funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. Friday. Interment will be held at the Butler-Savannah Cemetery on Rt. 89. In lieu of flowers, the Ball family requests that memorial contributions to honor Bill be sent to Finger Lakes Community Cancer Center, the Humane Society of Wayne County, or to the Savannah Volunteer Fire Department.
