Walter E. Fish
Walter Fish passed away Thursday, June 25, 2026, in his home with his loving family by his side.
Walter Fish was born on December 16, 1941, in Rochester, the son of the late Earl K. and Yvonne M. (Daupogne) Fish. By all accounts, Walter was a kind-hearted soul. He carried a rare warmth—steady, gentle, and unmistakably genuine. He devoted his life to his family and held tight to joy even in difficult seasons. His absence weighs heavily on the hearts of those who knew and loved him, and he will be deeply missed.
After graduating high school, he started working at Kodak and then eventually Walter joined the military, serving bravely in Vietnam. During his time in the Army, he was stationed at Fort Hood, Texas, Hell on Wheels Second Division, where when he was first there, he saw Elvis, yep The King! Upon returning home, Walter returned to working at Kodak, where he would spend his career and eventually retire.
Walter married his best friend and the love of his life, Jean, whom he fell in love with at first sight when he was a young awkward teenage boy, but as he would say, stick a fork in me I am done kinda love. Their bond was the kind people talk about—a lifelong partnership built on devotion, laughter, and the everyday moments that make a family. Together they raised their children on the family farm that is still their home today, and Jean and the kids were truly Walter’s whole world.
He found happiness in all sorts of things. He participated in drag races, speeding around in his appropriately named car, the “Filet-O-Fish.” He raised and trained German shorthair pointers for field trials.
He hunted and fished with his son Walter, and every year he would fish with his brother Jimmy in the 1000 Islands, one of his favorite places to be. Ask his kids about the chicken wing incident.
He leaves behind his beloved wife, Jean, and their children: Walter, Jennifer, and Heather Fish, his nephew Bobby, and his honorary “Fish” daughters: Gayle, Juni, and Erin.
He is preceded in death by his brother, James Rowley.
Friends and family are invited to call Wednesday, July 1, 2026, at Norton Funeral Home, 45 W Main St., Sodus, NY from 12 PM to 2 PM and again later that day from 3 PM to 4:30 PM. A memorial service will commence at 4:30 PM.
Walter’s last request in life to his children and friends was to promise that Jeanie would be taken care of. In lieu of flowers, and to honor Walter’s request, gift cards to Tops, Walmart, or Wegmans would be greatly appreciated.
