Shirley L. Rider

Shirley L. Rider Dundee/Penn Yan: Shirley L. Rider, age 84, passed away quietly on Wednesday, March 5, 2014, at The Homestead in Penn Yan, N.Y. Honoring her wishes, there are no prior calling hours. A memorial service will be held at 1:00 p.m. Saturday, March 15, at the Dundee Baptist Church, 20 Seneca Street, Dundee, with Rev. Harry Staiti and Lay Pastor Lew Ann Giles officiating. Burial will be private at the convenience of the family.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Alzheimer's Association, Rochester Chapter, 435 East Henrietta Rd., Rochester, NY 14620.

Shirley was born March 5, 1930, in Penn Yan, NY, the daughter of the late Thomas and Gertrude Hadley Wetmore. On March 23, 1952, in the Penn Yan Methodist Church, she married Howard F. Rider. She worked at Michaels Sterns for many years and made friends with those she worked with in the vineyards around Seneca Lake. But mostly she enjoyed spending time with family, taking in the beauty of the Finger Lakes shores. She was a member of Dundee Baptist Church.

She is survived by her husband of 61 years, Howard F. Rider; a son, Lee Rider; 2 daughters, Donna Rider and Linda (Ronald) McGuigan; grandchildren, Ben Rider, Lynn (Andrew) Campbell, Jeff (Kandi) Rider, Michelle Bablo, Lee Rider, and Amy Rider; 7 great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews.
