Dundee: Ronald S. Tomion, age 80, of Dundee, NY, died Friday, January 24, 2014, at The Homestead in Penn Yan, N.Y. Friends may call from 5-8 pm Tuesday (Jan. 28) at the Baird Funeral Home, 36 Water Street, Dundee; where his funeral service will be held at 10:00 am Wednesday (Jan. 29) with Lay Pastor Lew Ann Giles officiating. Burial will be in Shuman Cemetery, Penn Yan, in the spring. Memorial contributions may be made to Dundee Library, 32 Water St., Dundee, NY 14837.
Ronald was born March 19, 1933, in Penn Yan, NY, the son of the late Merrill W. and Doris Scott Tomion. He graduated from Gorham High School in 1950 and earned his F.C.C. License First Class from radio tech school in Rochester. He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict. For 35 years, he was a Radio Engineer for W.F.L.R. in Dundee. He also worked as a telephone switchman, retiring from Citizens Communications after 21 years in 1992.
On July 27, 1985, in Dundee, NY, he married the former Mary Georgiana Nikolas Bolger. He and his wife worked side by side at the Dundee Observer. He also helped her during her time as director of the Dundee Library. In his spare time, he enjoyed woodworking, doing projects at home and at the library, and spending time outdoors.
He is loved and will be dearly missed by his wife of 28 years, Mary Geo Tomion of Penn Yan; his son Jeffery (Amy) Tomion of Brewerton, NY; 3 daughters, Cindy L. (Ron) Povoski of Dundee, Holly J. Tomion of Port Byron, NY, Nicole L. (Robert) Pierce of Liverpool, NY; 2 brothers, Jack (Marion) Tomion of Ferguson Corners, NY, Wesley (Lorraine) Tomion of Penn Yan; a sister, Joyce (Fred) Sauer of Seneca Castle, NY; 8 grandchildren; 2 great-grandchildren; 2 stepsons; 3 stepdaughters; and several nieces and nephews.
