Randall Lee Shaffer
Randall Lee Shaffer (aka Hot Dog), 67, of Dryden, NY, passed away at Hospicare in Ithaca on Sunday, February 3, 2019, surrounded by family and friends after a long battle with cancer.
Born April 12, 1951, in Cortland, NY, Randy was the son of Gertrude Shaffer and the late Robert Shaffer. He graduated from Dryden Central High School, Class of 1969, and from Alfred State College. He served six years in the Army National Guard as a light wheeled vehicle mechanic.
Randy is survived by his children, Shannon A. Lateer, Desiree L. (Chris) Smith, and Heidi S. Shaffer; his mother, Gertrude Shaffer; his sister, Victoria Shaffer and her children, Toria (Mike) Curbelo & Dante Fezza; his grandchildren, Isaiah & Melody Lateer; his furry grand pups and cat, Bella. Randy was predeceased by his wife of 38 years, Sue C. Shaffer.
Randy worked for Mix Brothers Trucking in Freeville, NY, for 22 years, from whom he retired in 2016. Randy was an avid automobile enthusiast, and he especially loved to travel to Kentucky every year to attend the Mid-American Truck Show. In his younger years, you would see him at the races, playing softball with his buddies, camping with his family, and attending parties with his friends. Randy always looked forward to deer hunting, family reunions, watching the Syracuse Orange, NY Giants football, and NASCAR.
Calling hours will be held Saturday, February 9, 2019, at Perkins Funeral Home in Dryden, NY, from 11-1. Funeral services will follow. In lieu of flowers, please donate to Hospicare & Palliative Care Services, 172 East King Road, Ithaca, NY 14850.
