Phillip A. Moyer
Phillip Alton Moyer, age 86 of Wayland, passed away peacefully surrounded by loved ones at Noyes Memorial Hospital on Monday, June 1, 2026.
Phillip was born on January 6, 1940, in Warsaw to the late Howard and Hilda (Buchinger) Moyer. He grew up in Cuylerville and graduated from York Central School in 1958, and shortly after he joined the United States Air Force. He served proudly until 1968, at which time he returned to the Cuylerville area and began working for the G&W Railroad in Retsof. Phil was a proud and dedicated member of the National Guard from 1968 until he retired in 1994. In 1970, on a blind date, he met the love of his life, Jeannine Hassler. Together they shared over 52 wonderful years of marriage.
Phil loved his family very much and enjoyed watching the sporting events, music concerts, and drama productions of his children and grandchildren. Phil cared deeply about people and his community. He delivered Meals on Wheels, devoted himself to the church, and was a member of The South Dansville Masonic Lodge, currently the Stony Brook Lodge, for over 25 years. He and Jeannine loved playing cards, and no family dinner was complete until a spirited game of cards was played. Phil loved gardening and watching and learning about the birds at his many feeders. He and Jeannine valued their long scenic rides in the car, getting a coffee, and listening to Mitch Miller, Jerry Vale, and Tennessee Ernie Ford. Phil was a deeply patriotic man who was proud of America and his service to her and woke his children every July 4th at 5:00 AM to a loud, joyous version of “Stars and Stripes Forever” by John Philip Sousa, even after they were married and living in their own homes. Phil lived a life of oftentimes unseen and uncredited service to his Faith, his Family, his Community, and his Country.
In addition to his parents, Phillip is predeceased by his wife Jeannine Ellen Hassler Moyer; his sister and brother-in-law Helen and David Johnston; his brother, Clyde Kermit Moyer; and his grandson, Brent Alton Conrad.
Phillip is survived by his children: Kermit (Deborah) Moyer, Wendy (Brian) West, and Colleen (Doug) Conrad; his grandchildren: Kyle (Kendall) Moyer and Denae (Troy) Robinson, Jackson West, Cole West, Jason (Celine Roberts) Conrad, Robert Conrad, Joshua (Isabel Whitney) Conrad, and Ryan Conrad; his only great-grandson Griffin Robinson.
Phil is also survived by many friends and caregivers that became members of the family at the LCCNR in Mount Morris. The family can never thank the LCCNR community enough for the love and care shown to Phil during his time there.
Friends are invited to join the family from 4 PM – 7 PM on Thursday, June 4, 2026, at the Walter E. Baird & Sons Funeral Home in Wayland. Funeral services will be held at 11 AM on Friday, June 5, 2026, at the funeral home. Phillip will be buried in the Town of Leicester Cemetery.
