Norman G. Quill

Auburn, NY July 13, 2026 Age 76

Norman 'Norm' G. Quill, 76, passed away unexpectedly Monday, July 13, 2026, at Auburn Community Hospital, surrounded by his loving family.

He was a lifelong resident of Auburn, the son of the late Marjorie (Mentillo) and Norman G. Quill Sr. 'Norm', as he was affectionately known by his family and friends, was a West High School graduate, Class of 1968. He proudly served in the United States Army from 1969 to 1971. He went on to work for the New York State Department of Transportation as a foreman and retired after more than 32 years of service.

He was an avid outdoorsman, enjoying boating, hunting, and fishing. He was a member of the Hibernian’s Club and a huge animal lover. Norm was an avid New York Yankees fan, but that came second to his greatest love and passion, which were his family, especially his grandchildren. He seldom missed any of their sporting or school events, including endless hours of car rides to practice. Whether he was cheering from the stands or making his rounds around the county, he had a remarkable gift for making friends wherever he went. No matter if he was close to home or hours away in a place he’d never been, he never met a stranger and always left with a new friend and story to tell.

He was always the first to begin singing “Happy Birthday,” making sure every celebration started with laughter and a smile. He had a story for every occasion and every road traveled, literally. Those are the memories that his family will cherish and look back on with laughter. Norm loved people and spending time commiserating with them. His quick wit, cunning smile, and endless energy will never be duplicated by anyone and truly held closely in the hearts of those that loved him.

He is survived by his loving wife of 54 years, Deborah (Bianco) Quill of Auburn; son Todd Quill; daughters Shannon (Matt) Moskov and Lisa (Jim) Wride; grandchildren Anthony Quill, Samuel and Luke Moskov, Liam, Emma, and Nolan Wride; six siblings Larry Quill, Sharlene Chapman, Diane (Peter) Sokernyk, Marty Quill, Brian Quill (Diana), and Jeff (Erin) Quill; and his great nephew, Mitchell Platt, who held a special place in his heart, as well as many nieces, nephews, and cousins.

In addition to his parents, Norm was preceded in death by his beloved brother, James Quill. Though their time together was far too short, his love for Jimmy never faded.

In keeping with his wishes, no funeral or memorial services will be held. He would want to be remembered not with a formal gathering, but through stories shared, laughter he inspired, and the love he gave to his family and friends.
