Dundee: Michelle M. "Shelly" Wheaton, age 51, of Dundee, NY, died Thursday, January 23, 2014, at Arnot Ogden Medical Center in Elmira, NY, after a short yet brave battle with cancer. Friends may call from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Monday (Jan. 27) at the Baird Funeral Home, 36 Water Street, Dundee, where a funeral service will be held at 10:00 a.m. Tuesday (Jan. 28) with Pastor Semans officiating. Burial will be in Montour Falls Cemetery in the spring. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions would be graciously accepted to help the family with expenses.

Michelle was born August 31, 1962, in Corning, NY, the daughter of Hugh and Beverly Smith Knowles. A lifelong area resident, "Shelly," as she was known by her friends, was the Housekeeping Manager for the Inn at Glenora for many years right up until her health forced her to stop working. On June 24, 2006, in Dundee, she married her best friend and soul mate, Lamont C. Wheaton. An avid horse enthusiast and barrel racer in her younger years, she was a clean fanatic when not spending precious time with her family or playing games on the computer.

She is loved and will be dearly missed by her husband of 7 years, Lamont C. Wheaton, at home; 2 sons, Kyle E. (Christine Robbins) Dillon of Barrington and Tyler G. Wheaton at home; her mother, Beverly (Jerry) Lincoln of Avon Park, FL; her father, Hugh Knowles of Caton, NY; 3 brothers, Larry (Janice) Knowles of Painted Post, Ronnie (Candy) Knowles of Corning, and Donnie (Mingo) Knowles of Catlin, NY; 2 sisters, Sue (Dave) Preston of Lindley, NY, and Debbie LaBar of Campbell, NY; numerous nieces, nephews, and in-laws; and countless friends.
