Michael P. Anthony

Michael P. ("Mike") Anthony of Bear Creek Lodge, Forestport, New York, formerly of Cayuga, New York, passed away peacefully on Sunday night, July 19, 2026, at Wynn Hospital in Utica, New York, with his loving wife, Linda, and his brother-in-law, Clayton, by his side. Mike remained positive and determined throughout his illness and never wavered in his faith that he would beat this.

Mike was the son of the late Frederick A. Anthony and Marjorie A. (Dugan) Anthony. He was born in Auburn, New York, on July 17, 1960, and lived most of his life in the Cayuga/Auburn area. Mike attended Union Springs High School and later earned his GED.

Throughout his life, Mike worked in a variety of occupations. He worked for Finger Lakes Communications, erecting and servicing communication towers throughout ten Central New York counties for over 20 years. He later attended tractor-trailer school and drove over the road for five years. Mike also drove truck for Mapleton Ag and spent a few years working in construction, helping build homes. Mike retired in 2020 after more than 5 years working for Ryder trucking, where he hauled tanker loads of milk from local farmers to CMI/Milk Plant in Auburn.

Following his retirement, Mike and Linda made their home up North, in the Adirondacks at Bear Creek Lodge in Forestport. Mike loved the beautiful outdoors of the Adirondacks, where he could enjoy nature every day right outside his windows. He was a lifetime member of the Sons of the American Legion, Post 1107, in Union Springs for more than 30 years.

Mike and Linda had known each other for many years and finally found each other's love in 2015. They were married on April 27, 2019, and shared many wonderful years together. They recently purchased a winter home at Dunedin Palms in Dunedin, Florida, where they spent the past three winters.

Mike loved golfing every week with "the boys" and enjoyed participating in as many activities and events as he could while in Florida. He especially enjoyed riding bikes on the bike trails, taking the golf cart into town to visit the many restaurants and attractions Dunedin has to offer, and competing in the twice-weekly shuffleboard competitions at the park.

Mike was an avid sports fan who especially enjoyed Syracuse University football, NASCAR, and, above all else, his lifelong favorite team—the Buffalo Bills. He was a loud and proud member of the Buffalo Mafia and could often be heard cheering for his team from afar. Whenever the Bills won, Mike and Linda would proudly wave his Buffalo Bills flag up and down the park streets in celebration of the win. Mike loved hunting, especially for deer, and fishing, where he and Linda were always competing to see who could catch the biggest bass off their dock. Mike also enjoyed golfing with Linda at Bear Creek Lodge. They golfed in many tournaments and on leagues. Mike was a kind, loving man and lots of fun to be with. He was always willing to lend a hand and give a helping hand to those in need.

Mike is survived by his beloved wife, Linda J. Anthony; his siblings, Dan Anthony of Auburn, David (Karen) Anthony of Auburn, Denise (Jeff) Hinman of Weedsport, Michele (Tim) McCarthy of Florida, Cheryl (Steve) Wells of Auburn, and Brenda (Armond) Johnson of Texas. He is also survived by his son, Mike (Jennifer) Anthony of Moravia; his daughter, Casey (Brandon) Emperato of Auburn; his son Christopher; several grandchildren; many nieces and nephews; countless friends; and extended family members who will deeply mourn his passing.

Mike was predeceased by his parents; his sister, Darlene; Linda's two sons, Steven and Michael; and many beloved aunts and uncles.

Calling hours will be held at Pettigrass Funeral Home, 196 Genesee Street, Auburn, New York, on Monday, July 27th from 11:00 am until 12:15 pm. A funeral service will immediately follow at the funeral home, with burial afterwards in St. Joseph's Cemetery on Lake Avenue in Auburn. Immediately following the burial, family and friends are invited to attend a Celebration of Life at the Union Springs American Legion, Schobey St, Union Springs. In honor of Mike and his love for the Buffalo Bills, the family invites everyone attending the Celebration of Life to wear their favorite Buffalo Bills attire. GO BILLS!
