Bath/Penn Yan: Melissa Lynne Marie Sutherland, age 40, of Bath, NY, died unexpectedly on Tuesday, July 30, 2013, at home. Friends are invited to her funeral services at 11:00 am Saturday, Aug. 3, at Emmanuel Baptist Church, 332 Main St., Penn Yan, with Pastor Ron Woudenberg officiating. The family will greet friends at a reception immediately following the service downstairs at the church. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations to help with expenses may be sent to the family c/o the Funeral Home, 36 Water Street, Dundee, NY 14837.

Melissa was born December 29, 1972, in Geneva, NY, the daughter of Cameron B. Sutherland and Doris Ruth Lamborn Sutherland. She graduated from Emmanuel Baptist Academy in 1991. She has lived in Bath since 2000, formerly of Penn Yan. A former manager of the Savona Mobil Station and Subway Convenient Store, she was currently employed by SITEL in Painted Post, NY, as a Call Center Sales Representative. Melissa's favorite job was being a loving mother and caregiver to her soul mate and their 11 children. When she was not doing laundry, she enjoyed painting and spending time with family and friends at the lake.

She is loved and will be dearly missed by her companion and best friend of 13 years, Sandy S. Cummings, at home; children, Andrew, Bradley, Matthew, and Christa Mashewske, Alexis Sutherland, Cassandra, Shane, Brianna, and Zachery Cummings, Dillon, and MacKenzie Buckley; her mother, Doris R. (Kyle) Jorgensen of Penn Yan; her father, Cameron B. (April) Sutherland Sr. of Dundee; maternal grandmother, Marion Lamborn of Penn Yan; 4 brothers, Cameron B. Sutherland Jr., Shane Sutherland, Trevor (Mattie) Sutherland, and Ethan Sutherland; a sister, Serenity (Matt Vollmer) Sutherland; numerous aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins, and countless friends.

Besides her paternal grandparents and her maternal grandfather, she was predeceased by her favorite "Mom," Sandy's mother, Tonia Cummings Basile.
