He was born in New York and raised in Seneca Falls. Marty graduated from Mynderse Academy before eventually making North Carolina his home, most recently Franklinton, NC. He built a career in the automotive industry and worked at EMC Auto Sales in Wake Forest, NC.
Marty never met a stranger. He was known for his oversized hugs, his open door, and his willingness to help anyone in need. He had a gift for making people feel welcome and treating friends like family.
When he wasn't spending time with loved ones, Marty enjoyed the things that brought him joy most: golf and sports. He was an avid golfer, a loyal fan of the Carolina Hurricanes, Carolina Panthers, NC State, and loved traveling back to New York to watch playoff games with family. Those traditions, filled with laughter and friendly competition, became some of his favorite memories.
Marty will be remembered not for what he had, but for what he gave. His kindness, loyalty, generosity, and love for family left a lasting mark on everyone fortunate enough to know him.
He is survived by his daughter Kayleigh (Colby) Wicker of Greensboro, NC, and his son Matthew (Katelyn) Burgie of Franklinton, NC; his beloved grandchildren Colton, Carson, and Charlette; his parents Marvin and Kathleen Burgie of Weeki Wachee, FL; sisters Joanna Dotson of Athens, GA, and Tiffany (Mike Brownell) Fisk of Clyde, NY; his dear friends Joe and Robin Watkins of Wake Forest, NC; and many aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, and nephews.
Marty was predeceased by his grandparents Gerald and Rhoda May, and Elizabeth Burgie.
