Penn Yan: Mark A. Bechard, age 61, of Penn Yan, N.Y., died Thursday, October 4, 2012, at Rochester General Hospital in Rochester, N.Y. Honoring his wishes, there were no prior calling hours. A graveside memorial service will be held at 11:00 AM on Friday, October 26, in Lakeview Cemetery, Penn Yan, with Rev. Tom Wunder officiating. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Humane Society of Yates County, P.O. Box 12, Penn Yan, NY 14527.

Mark was born August 24, 1951, in Plattsburgh, NY, the son of the late John J. Bechard and Ann R. Roberts Bechard. He graduated from Northeastern Clinton High School in 1969 and attended S.U.N.Y. Oswego. He has lived locally since 1973, previously of Lake Champlain. On November 16, 1974, in Branchport, NY, he married the former Cynthia L. Snyder.

Mark worked for many years as a Detailer for Mark Malcolm and Jollies Car Dealerships in Penn Yan, before becoming a maintenance technician on the commercial level, having been employed by St. Marks Terrance in Penn Yan, the Penn Yan Presbyterian Church, and Eaves Family Dental. A heart attack in 2006 forced him to retire. He attended the Penn Yan Methodist Church and Penn Yan Bible Church when he could. In his spare time, he enjoyed woodworking and yard sales.

He is loved and will be dearly missed by his wife of 37 years, Cindy L. Bechard, at home; his mother, Ann R. Bechard; four sisters, Joy, Jill, Laurie, and Pier; a brother, Jon; niece, Kristen; numerous other nieces, nephews, and several in-laws; and his two faithful furry friends, Princess and Buddy.
