Margaret P. Metcalf
Savannah: Age 96 passed after a short illness on Monday, June 4, 2012. Her son John was at her side.
Margaret was born on July 3, 1915, in Savannah. She was the daughter of Raymond and Louella Bixby.
Margaret and husband Gale ran the Wolcott Hotel for many years and later built and ran what is now known as the Pier One restaurant on Port Bay. She retired as the manager of the Warners Thruway restaurant in Warners, NY.
She is survived by her son John, daughter-in-law Pat, grandchildren Brenda of Denver, Michelle of Stuart, Fla, and Jon and Nate of Savannah. Also by a loving family of cousins, nieces, and nephews. She was predeceased by husband Gale Metcalf, brothers Jerome Bixby, Joseph Bixby, and a sister Harriet Marshall Knox.
She taught her loving family how to enjoy the gift of life and smile even if it hurt. She gave these gifts to everyone she knew. Her words to all were, "Believe and you will see."
Per her request, there will be no services; a family gathering will occur at a later date. For those who wish, memorials may be made to the Savannah Fire Department in Margaret's name. Arrangements: Norton Funeral Home of Savannah.
