Margaret "Peg" Mansfield

Hemlock, NY - Margaret “Peg” (Peters) Mansfield, age 81, passed away peacefully at home on Tuesday, May 12, 2026.

She is survived by her children, Thomas Luke (Kristen) Mansfield of Harrisburg, SD, and Jesse Jude Mansfield of Hemlock; bonus son, Scott Fitt of Hemlock; stepdaughter, Kelly Close of Amargosa Valley, NV; three granddaughters, Ciara Cantrell, Ruby Close, and Addison Mansfield; three siblings, Patricia Lawlor of Rochester, NY, Robert “Bob” Peters of Mesa, AZ, and Mark Peters of St. Louis, MO; and several in-laws, nieces, and nephews.

She was predeceased by her husband, Thomas Mansfield; stepson, Andrew Mansfield; brother, James “Jimmy” Peters; stepmother, Patricia Peters; and sister-in-law, Marilyn Mansfield.

Peg was born in New York, New York, and was the daughter of James and Marjorie (Colligan) Peters and was the oldest of five children. She attended Brentwood Public High School, graduating in 1963. In her childhood, she enjoyed people-watching on the subway and spending time with her siblings and cousins.

Peg later moved to the Finger Lakes Region of New York to attend SUNY Geneseo, where she graduated with a degree in library science in 1967. She remained in the region for the rest of her life.

Peg was a librarian at the Gates-Chili school district for 34 years. During her summers away from teaching, she enjoyed camping with her family, especially at Kring Point in the Thousand Islands.

In retirement, she loved cruises with her family, trips abroad to Ireland and Scotland, and multiple extended stays in Israel, where she lived in Tel Aviv, Jerusalem, and at a prayer house on the Mount of Olives.

Peg was a published author who enjoyed reading, writing, and going to the movies, and was known for her devout faith.
