Dundee: Louise Esther Chaffee, age 81, of Dundee, NY, died Sunday, September 4, 2011, at Arnot Ogden Medical Center in Elmira, NY. Friends may call from 2-3 p.m. Thursday (Sept. 8) at the Baird Funeral Home, 36 Water Street, Dundee, where a funeral service will be held at 3:00 p.m. with Rev. Lucinda O'Leary officiating. Burial will be at the convenience of the family.

Louise was born January 11, 1930, in Tyrone, NY, the daughter of the late Orlando and Mary Elizabeth Knapp Davis. A lifelong area resident, having previously lived in Elmira, where she was employed for many years by Elmira College. She was also a former Cafeteria Worker at Dundee Central School. Mrs. Chaffee was a former member of Dundee VFW Ladies Auxiliary.

She is survived by 2 sons, Charles G. Chaffee of Elmira and Allen H. Chaffee of Rock Hill, SC; a daughter, Nikki L. Hacker, with whom she made her home; 15 grandchildren; 25 great-grandchildren; a brother, Sonny (Joan) Davis of Savona, NY; a sister, Marian Scott of Beaver Dams; and numerous nieces and nephews.

She was predeceased by her husband, Howard G. Chaffee Sr., on Dec. 4, 1974; a daughter, Linda Marie Robbins, in 1986; a son, Howard G. Chaffee Jr., in 1995; a son, James E. Chaffee, in 2007; a granddaughter; 4 brothers; 2 sisters; and her best friend and companion of many years, Robert J. Trenchard.
