Laura was born March 1, 1920, in the town of Tyrone, NY, the daughter of the late Harry A. and Carrie E. Crookston Houck. She graduated from Hammondsport High School in 1937 and attended Whalen School of Nursing in Geneva. On January 8, 1942, in Wayne, NY, she married the late Howard P. Longwell; he passed away on November 16, 1969.

Her family was her main priority; yet she still managed to work varied jobs throughout her life, including the Wire Hood Factory in Hammondsport, Ira Davenport Hospital in Bath, and the Dundee Central School Cafeteria, and finally as a Home Health Aide. She retired in 1983 and enjoyed her retirement in Florida until returning to New York in 2002.

Mrs. Longwell was a former member of the Wayne Baptist Church, having transferred to Savona Federated Church. An avid Stephen King reader, she enjoyed traveling, having fond memories of a cruise to Alaska with her sisters.

She is loved and will be dearly missed by a son, Lyn C. (Linda) Longwell of Waterloo; 2 daughters, Rosa L. (George) Thompson of Rochester, and Kay L. Lampman of Dresden; 2 sisters, Beatrice Bellis of Floral City, FL, and Harriet (Robert) Sackett of Seminole, FL; 7 grandchildren; 9 great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews.

Beside her husband, she was pre-deceased by a sister, Mildred McIntire, in 2000; a grandson, Neal Lampman, in 2001; a brother, Carl Houck; and a son-in-law, Neal Lampman, both in 2007.
