Judith Ann O'Brochta

Hammondsport, NY July 17, 1943 – July 12, 2026 Age 82

Judith "Judy" O'Brochta, 82, of Hammondsport, New York, passed away peacefully on Sunday, July 12, 2026. Born on July 17, 1943, in Hammondsport, Judy was a lifelong member of the community and a graduate of Hammondsport Central School.

Throughout her life, she enjoyed spending time with friends and family and creating memories through shared experiences, laughter, and adventures. During her early adult years, Judy worked as a chef at Bully Hill Vineyards, a chapter of her life she remembered fondly. There she formed lifelong friendships and enjoyed many memorable experiences, including a trip to Spain, lively gatherings with friends, and the famous pig roasts that became treasured memories. Following her years at Bully Hill, Judy joined Philips Lighting, where she worked until her retirement.

Judy was preceded in death by her parents, Pete and Lida Westervelt; her brother, Michael Westervelt; and her sister, Margo Kelly.

She is survived by her daughters, Melissa (Adam) King and Michele (Jon) Beckman; her son, Mitchell (Carrie) O'Brochta; her grandchildren, Mitchell (Christina) O'Brochta, Madilyn Beckman, James (Elizabeth) Beckman, Zachary O'Brochta, Nathan O'Brochta, Darbi King, and Maryn King; and her great-grandchildren, Oliver, Lucy, Everly, and Courtlynn.

Judy found joy in preparing and sharing meals and making the holidays special for family and friends. She loved bringing people together, whether around the dinner table, during family gatherings, or for a friendly game of Euchre or Yahtzee. She also had a talent for sewing, and many family members and friends were fortunate to receive handmade gifts that became cherished keepsakes over the years.

One of Judy's most meaningful contributions was her dedication to Girl Scouting. As the leader of Girl Scout Troop 1120, she helped provide opportunities for adventure, friendship, and learning through camping trips, activities, and special events. Many of the girls who shared those experiences carried those memories with them long after their scouting years had ended.

Judy also had a special love for Great Danes. Over the course of her life, she shared her home with three of these gentle giants, each of whom held a special place in her heart. Her dogs were more than pets—they were family, faithful companions who brought her comfort, joy, and many laughs.

She loved amusement parks and never missed an opportunity to ride a roller coaster. Whether seeking out the next thrill ride, spending time with family, or enjoying the company of friends, Judy embraced the moments that brought people together and created lasting memories.

Above all, Judy will be remembered for her unmistakable laugh. It was a laugh that could be recognized from across a crowded room and one that often brought smiles to those around her. Her laughter, her spirit, and the memories she leaves behind will remain in the hearts of those who knew and loved her.
