Jonathan Snyder Loomis
Jonathan Snyder Loomis passed away on May 6, 2026, in Auburn, NY, at the age of 65. Born on April 27, 1961, Jon spent his life dedicated to helping others. He brought much joy to his family and friends.
Jon graduated from Union Springs Central School in 1979 and from Oswego State in 1983. He went on to earn his Master's degree as a licensed clinical social worker from Syracuse University in 1995. His career as a therapist spanned over four decades, during which he touched countless lives with his compassionate and nonjudgmental counseling. For more than 20 years, Jon maintained a private practice where he could continue to pursue his passion for helping people. His work was not just a profession but a calling that left an indelible mark on those he helped.
Beyond his professional achievements, Jon had a deep love for music. A talented musician, he played the saxophone, the flute, and the piano. He also sang with the Genesee Street Voices and had been with the group since its inception 13 years ago. Music was not only a source of personal joy for Jon but also a way he connected with others and enriched their lives. Jon was also known for his quirky sense of humor and remarkable talent for impressions. His impressions of Homer Simpson and Jimmy Stewart, just to name a couple, were spot on. He had an ability to bring laughter to any room. Friends may also recall his participation as a young man in Auburn's city softball league, perhaps most notably on "Dud's Studs," a softball team sponsored by the lumber company owned by his dad, Dud Loomis. Jon enjoyed other sports, too, such as touch football, racquetball, and Wiffle Ball. He was a staunch supporter of his beloved Green Bay Packers.
Jon is survived by his mom, Esther Snyder Loomis, frail but still here at age 105; his siblings, Rebecca Loomis, Beth (Jim) Salvage, Barb Loomis, Art (Hong) Loomis, and Beverly Robinson; nieces Jessica (Chuck) Kimes, Joanne (Kevin) Willcox, Steph (TJ) Leone, Aiwen (Valentin Kovalev) Zhang, Annie Loomis, and Julia (Will) Prinzi; as well as several great-nephews and great-nieces. He was predeceased by his dad, Dudley Loomis.
A celebration of Jon's life will be held at a later date. Those who wish may make a donation in Jon's memory to a charity of their choice. Jon leaves a legacy of kindness, humor, and dedication to helping others that will be remembered by all who knew him.
