John F. Conrad Sr.
John F. Conrad Sr., age 78, of Penn Yan, and formerly of Smithtown, NY, passed away June 18, 2025, in the peace of his home.
John was born in Manhattan, the son of German immigrants, Otto Hans and Auguste Sophie (Olsson) Conrad. John received his bachelor's degree from Dowling College and Advanced Studies Certificates from The American Institute of Banking. John retired from the Federal Reserve Bank of New York and began a second career with Suffolk County as a licensed Wastewater Treatment Plant Operator.
John was predeceased by both sons, John and Jeffrey Conrad. Also, sister Elsbeth and her husband Jerry Crowe, brothers-in-law Donald Meyer, James Lane, and Martin Lane, and sister-in-law Lorna Lane.
He is survived by wife Patricia Conrad; sister Norma Meyer; and daughters-in-law Faith Conrad and Dr. Lauren Hess Conrad. Also, brothers-and-sisters-in-law Albert Lane, Madeline (Thomas) O'Malley, Sheila (Harold) Conaty, Nora Lane, and Debbie Lane; five grandchildren, four great-grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends at Weldon Funeral Home, 102 E. Main Street, Penn Yan, on Friday (June 27th) from 2-4 PM and 6-8 PM. A funeral mass will be held on Saturday at 11:00 AM at St. Michaels Catholic Church, 312 Liberty Street, in Penn Yan, with cremation to follow.
John enjoyed sailing on the Great South Bay and on the Connetquot River on the "Moonlighter," which he moored in East Islip. His favorite vacation was to take a cruise and to watch the beautiful sunsets on the west coast of Florida at Manasota Beach. Thanksgiving was his favorite holiday because he felt so blessed to have strong family ties and such good friends. He will be dearly missed. Smooth sailing!
