Trumansburg, NY January 1, 1932 – November 7, 2022 Age 90

Irene F. (nee Pachai) English, age 90, of Trumansburg, New York, passed away peacefully at Cayuga Medical Center on Monday, November 7, 2022.

Irene was born in Ithaca, New York, in 1932, the daughter of the late George and Elizabeth (nee Batyanyi) Pachai (Pacsya, Austria Hungary). In addition to her parents, Irene was preceded in death by her first husband, Lawrence E. Herrick, and her second husband, Niles J. English Sr.

Irene was also preceded in death by ten of her siblings: Rose, Helen, Kathryn, Elizabeth, George, Mary, Margaret, Anne, Stephen, and Johnny, and survived by her sister Jeannette, several nephews and nieces, and her sister-in-law Mary Ann.

Irene is also survived by her children: Patricia Madigan, Steven (Janet) Herrick, William (Mary) Herrick, Susan (William) Besemer, and James (Sandy) Herrick.

Irene is also survived by her many grandchildren and related great-grandchildren: (via Patricia) Katherine (Tim) Denmark, and their children Allison and Cole, and Joseph (Katrina) Madigan and their son Jack; (via Steven) Liane Herrick, Matthew (Evita) Herrick, and Jon (Stacey) Herrick; (via William) W. Michael (Christine) Herrick and Jason (Samantha) Herrick and their son Elijah; (via Susan) Christine (Eben) Whitaker and their son Logan, and Sarah (Josh) Smith and their sons Hunter and Carson.

Irene resided in the Finger Lakes area for most of her life, residing in Trumansburg since 1957. Irene was an active member of the St. James Roman Catholic Church for many years and received Associate Degrees at Tompkins County Community College.

Irene was an avid gardener and naturalist, enjoying the beauty of her own gardens, as well as the area's gorges, falls, and parks, while delighting in the birds and clouds overhead.

Irene was also a life-long fan of the New York Yankees and the New York (football) Giants.
