Dundee: Francis Robert "Pete" Bedient, age 91, of The Terrace Dundee, died Friday, June 21, 2013, at the Veterans Administration Hospital in Bath, N.Y. Honoring his wishes, there are no prior calling hours. A funeral service will be held at 11:00 am Tuesday (June 25) at the Baird Funeral Home, 36 Water Street, Dundee, with Rev. Judy Peppard officiating. Burial with military honors will follow in Hillside Cemetery, Dundee. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to American Heart Assoc. Finger Lakes Chpt., 2113 Chili Ave., Rochester, NY 14624.

Francis, better known as "Pete," was born June 14, 1922, in Corning, NY, the son of the late Arthur and Bessie Poorman Bedient. On April 20, 1940, in Corning, NY, he married the former Madeline Mae Tetor. He served from 1944-1945 in the 80th Infantry Division Third Army during WWII. He was a retired grain and produce dealer and grape farmer, having had 60 acres of vineyards. He retired when he sold his farm to Gold Seal Winery of Urbana in 1969.

He is survived by one son, Zane A. (Nancy) Bedient of Chesapeake, VA; three grandchildren, Sherry Dee Silvey, Robert Todd Bedient, and Michael Allen Bedient; ten great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his son, Ross Edward Bedient, a member of the 242 Helicopter Battalion, who was killed in action in Vietnam on July 13, 1970; his beloved wife, Madeline Mae Bedient, on Oct. 25, 2006, after 66 years of marriage; and his son, Gerald Francis Bedient, unexpectedly on April 23, 2013.
