Elva "Mae" "Gram" Sims
East Bloomfield – Elva “Mae” “Gram” Sims, age 90, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, July 14, 2026. She is survived by six grandchildren, Jason Sims, Jennifer Sims, Michael Artrip, Elizabeth Sims, Sean Sims, and Dakota Sims; two great-grandchildren, Alexis and Rory; four sisters, Arlene Reed, Shirlene Gibson, Neva Turner, and Peggy Ann Lambert; two daughters-in-law; and many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband, Harley Sims, Sr. in 2003; four sons, Harley “Steve” Sims in 2026, Michael C. Sims in 2002, Douglas H. Sims in 1980, and Gary L. Sims in 2015; and 16 siblings.
Mae was born and raised in Buckhannon, WV, and was the daughter of Ray and Thelma (Arbogast) Lambert. At age 18, she moved to Knoxville, TN for work, and that’s where she met her future husband Harley, working at the same hospital. They were married in Knoxville on December 31, 1955, and started their family. Mae and Harley later moved to Rochester, NY for work and were raising four boys, eventually settling in East Bloomfield.
Mae loved gardening and flowers and worked at White’s Farm Market in East Bloomfield for over 30 years. She enjoyed baking and was known for her homemade biscuits. Mae was baptized this year at Little Lakes Church in Honeoye. She loved her family and friends very much and cared for them at the end of life. Mae was a proud southern woman right to the end.
Friends may call Monday, July 20, from 5-7 pm, at Johnson-Kennedy Funeral Home, Inc., 47 N. Main St., Canandaigua. A graveside service will be held Tuesday, July 21, at 11 am, at East Bloomfield Cemetery, Park Place, Bloomfield.
