Betty, born on August 17, 1941, in Penn Yan, NY, passed away peacefully surrounded by loved ones on July 19, 2026, leaving behind a legacy of love, faith, and family that will continue for generations. Family was the center of Betty's life and her greatest blessing. She was the devoted wife of Walter Johnson and a loving mother to Mary Campbell (Moe), Lisa Wood, and her late son, James Granger (Sue) and Babe the pup. She also loved her stepchildren, James Johnson and Susan Johnson, as part of her family.
Nothing made Betty happier than being surrounded by the people she loved. She was a proud and loving grandmother to Mary B. Stoe (Elise), Josh Granger (Tiffany), James Granger Jr. (Christina), Patrick Granger (Becky), and Brittany Griffin (Dan). She was also blessed with several great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren who brought endless joy to her life. Whether it was a holiday, a birthday dinner, or a simple afternoon together, she treasured every moment spent with her family.
Betty dedicated more than 27 years of her life to caring for others through her work at the Canandaigua VA Medical Center. Her compassion, dedication, and gentle spirit touched the lives of countless veterans and coworkers throughout her career.
A woman of deep faith, Betty loved the Lord with all her heart. She was a faithful member of the First Baptist Church in Penn Yan, where she found strength, friendship, and purpose throughout her life.
She found happiness in life's simple pleasures. She loved watching the birds outside her window, tending to her gardens, taking road trips, watching the ducks and swans at the lake, and gathering with her family at the cherished Milo camp that has been in her family for decades. That camp is more than just a place; it's where stories were shared, traditions were carried on, laughter echoed through the trees, and memories were made that her family will treasure forever.
In addition to her beloved husband and children, Betty is survived by her siblings, Mary Jane Kerrick and Brooklyn Bicksler (Shelly), as well as many cherished nieces, nephews, and special friends, each of whom held a special place in her heart. She was preceded in death by her beloved son, James Granger Sr.; her sisters, Edith and Patricia; her brothers, Rick and Gene; brother-in-law Harold Kerrik; special cousin Joanne; her niece Tracey; and her great-nephew, Bradley.
Betty will be remembered for her warm heart, quiet strength, unwavering faith, and unconditional love. She had a gift for making everyone feel welcome and cared for, and she taught her family the importance of kindness, hard work, and always putting God and family first. Though she will be deeply missed, the love she gave so freely and the memories she created will live on in the hearts of all who knew and loved her.
The family would like to express their heartfelt gratitude to the physicians, nurses, and staff of the Intensive Care Unit at Geneva General Hospital for the exceptional care, compassion, and kindness they showed Betty and her family during her final days. Their comfort, support, and genuine concern brought peace during an incredibly difficult time and will never be forgotten.
Family and friends are invited to celebrate Betty's life during calling hours at the First Baptist Church of Penn Yan on August 1st from 11 AM to 1 PM, with a funeral service to follow after calling hours. All who knew and loved Betty are welcome to join the family in honoring her life, sharing memories, and celebrating the faith and love that defined her remarkable life.
