Donald A. Kirby

He is predeceased by his parents, John and Yvonne Kirby of Pittsford, NY. He is survived by his wife, Leona "Lee" Busch Kirby; sister Paula (Jim) Degnan; twin brother David; children Lance Busch, Jill Wallace (Craig), Amy Phillips (Eric); 7 grandchildren; 2 great grandchildren; nieces and nephews; and best friend Bob Lyke.

Don's father was part owner of Sea Breeze Amusement Park in Rochester, NY, so Don grew up at the park. When he was old enough, he operated the well-known Jack Rabbit roller coaster every summer. Little did he know, his future wife would ride it every time she visited the park. Don was the original owner of the Mark VII Old Yeller race car and ran the Road America Circuit. He was proud of the many trophies he won.

He attended Park College in Illinois, where he earned his commercial pilot's license with an ATP rating. He flew for Navik Air and in 1982 survived a mid-air collision. He later worked as a machinist for many years for Jess Halen Engines in Penfield, NY. In 1991, Don and Lee headed south after purchasing a KOA campground in South Carolina. They enjoyed 10 years operating the campground and meeting the many passersby, some from as far as France and Japan. They then retired to the Crystal Coast of North Carolina. Don started a lawn care business, calling himself the "Yankee Clipper," and continued mowing until the age of 72. Boating and fishing were favorite pastimes as well. Finally, in 2024, they moved back home to New York to be near family.

Don lived his life with humor, wit, and steadfast love for his wife and children. He will forever be missed by many friends and family. A graveside service will be held at a later date at Oakwood Cemetery, Baird Rd, Penfield.
