Donald J. Harrington

Donald J. Harrington, 88, of Groton, passed away unexpectedly on April 21, 2026, at Guthrie Cortland Medical Center.

Don was born June 13, 1937, in Cortland, son of the late Eugene and Dorothy (La Fave) Harrington. A lifelong Groton resident, he attended the Groton schools and embarked as a teenager on a 29-year career with Smith Corona Marchant (SCM). After Corona's local closings, he worked for 15 years in custodial services at Cornell University.

He was a lifelong communicant of St. Anthony Catholic Church, where he served as an altar boy and usher, and had assisted with his father in fundraising toward the construction of the current church in the 1970s.

He is survived by his wife of 63 years, Dianne (Coffey) Harrington, and his sons, Dale Harrington and Darrell Harrington (Jacque). In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by a sister, Arlene Harrington.

A Prayer Service will be conducted at 11:00 AM on Tuesday, April 28, at the Shurtleff Funeral Home, 103 Lincoln Avenue, Groton. A calling hour will precede the service from 10:00 - 11:00 at the funeral home, with interment to follow at St. Anthony's Cemetery.
