Deborah D. Bastow
Deborah Mae Bastow (Detweiler), 75, of Honeoye Falls, NY, passed away peacefully on May 25, 2026, surrounded by her loving family, after a courageous battle with Parkinson's. Debbie's southern charm, warmth, wit and smile continued to touch everyone around her, even in her final days.
Debbie was the beloved wife of Dr. Patrick (Jeff) Bastow, devoted mother of Jeffrey (Ashley) of New Providence, NJ and Ashley (Juan) of Fairport, NY, and the cherished daughter of the late John and Inez Detweiler of Richmond, VA. She is survived by her three beautiful grandchildren (Hannah, Claire, William), a younger brother John Jr. (Pam), a niece and three nephews; and an extraordinary circle of friends she considered family in every sense of the word.
Born in Easton, PA and raised in Richmond, VA, Debbie graduated Phi Beta Kappa majoring in Mathematics at the College of William & Mary, where she was an active member of the Kappa Kappa Gamma sorority. Pursuing her first job after graduation, Debbie moved to the Buffalo area in 1972, where she literally \"bumped into\" her future husband Jeff outside of Mulligan's. This was the beginning of their 52-year love story, and they married shortly thereafter in June of 1974. Debbie and Jeff moved to Rochester for Jeff to complete his residency and subsequently they settled in the village of Honeoye Falls where she briefly taught math at the high school, and they began their family.
Debbie went on to receive her MBA from the University of Rochester Simon Business School and started her new career path with Citibank in roles of increasing responsibility, ending with her career as a Financial Advisor with High Falls Advisors. She devoted her career to helping people, especially young women, achieve financial independence and successfully plan for their futures. She was the kind of colleague known for going above and beyond for clients and truly caring about her teammates.
A fixture in the Rochester area business community, Debbie enjoyed her participation and roles in various philanthropic organizations. She was a member of the Women's Network, Junior League and the Chatterbox Club. She was equally dedicated to volunteering for Gilda's Club, Bethany Express, a domestic violence women's shelter and her church.
The family extends its deepest gratitude to the exceptional team at The Friendly Home whose compassion meant everything when it was needed most.
A memorial service will be held on Friday July 10th at 11am at the Honeoye Falls United Methodist Church, 31 East St, Honeoye Falls, NY. All are warmly invited.
In place of flowers, the family asks that donations be made in Debbie's memory to: Parkinson's Foundation: https://www.parkinson.org/donate. When donating, please note \"In memory of Debbie Bastow\" so that Jeff, Jeffrey and Ashley will know.
