Daniel J. Sitterly
Daniel J. Sitterly, 50, passed away unexpectedly on June 14, 2026. He was born in Auburn, the son of Donna (Hitchcock) McCracken and the late Harland ‘Jake’ Sitterly. Dan graduated from Port Byron High School, Class of 1994, and excelled as a wrestler for the Panthers. He was an avid New Orleans Saints football fan. Danny loved cooking for his family and family dinner night every Monday. He loved chasing waterfalls with his kids as they grew, and nothing made him smile like getting to see his grandkids on any given day. He was a simple man that enjoyed sitting in the sun, drinking a cup of coffee, and watching a football game or the morning news. He was a dog lover through and through, and the loss of his beloved lab, Sparty, was a sadness felt through the entire family.
Danny was a professional chef for many years, cooking at Kosta’s and CJ’s, and was renowned throughout the local restaurant industry. Cherished by many co-workers throughout the years, he will surely be missed in the kitchen. Son, uncle, brother, nephew, grandson, dad, but mostly known as Papa, Danny has taken a piece of us with him, and his loss will forever leave heavy hearts behind.
He is survived by his loving wife of 20 years, Amanda (Carpenter) Sitterly; his mother, Donna; children, Sabrina (Jesse) Shepherd, Ariel Sitterly, Danielle Sitterly, Cole Carpenter, Aurora Sitterly; three grandchildren, Freya Shepherd, Melody, and Ezra Sitterly; four siblings, Michele Church, Jacob Sitterly, Stephen Wirsig, Leigh Anne (Jason) Lagoe; several nieces, nephews, cousins, and beloved canine friends Bear and Mello. In addition to his father, he was also predeceased by two beloved canine companions, Spartacus and Teddy.
