Chester Helmer, 85, passed away on January 20, 2024, at home with his family by his side.

Chet was born on November 16, 1938, in Montezuma, the son of the late Chester C. and Golda (Allen) Helmer. He served in the US Air Force from 1956 to 1958. For 27 years, he worked as a Heavy Equipment Operator for IOUE #832 out of Rochester. He was a fire chief in Savannah.

He is survived by his loving and supporting wife of 50 years, Geraldine 'Gerry' (Reading); his daughters Tina Helmer, Kelly (Tim) Carmon, and Patty (Joe) McBride; his sons Richard J. (Linda), Donald (Lisa) Helmer, Gerald Helmer, and Timothy Capron; 10 grandchildren; 7 great-grandchildren; several nieces, nephews, and cousins.

He is predeceased by two sisters, Edna (Howard) Sanders and Jean Helmer, and his brother Richard L. (Ann) Helmer.
