Charles V. “Charlie” Hagan
Charles V. “Charlie” Hagan, 87, of Arkport, formerly of Dansville, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, July 14, 2026, at Strong Memorial Hospital in Rochester. Charlie was a devoted husband, loving father, proud grandfather and great-grandfather, beloved uncle, respected brother, and a loyal friend whose kindness, humility, and generosity touched all who knew him.
Charlie was born on October 28, 1938, in Warsaw, New York, to the late James and Arline (Deal) Hagan. He graduated from York Central School in 1957, where he earned recognition as the school’s Most Valuable Player in basketball during his senior year.
Following graduation, Charlie proudly enlisted in the United States Army, serving as a paratrooper with the prestigious 82nd Airborne Division from 1957 to 1960. His military service was a source of great pride throughout his life.
After returning home, Charlie met the love of his life, Faith Palmer. They were married on June 10, 1961, and shared more than 63 wonderful years of marriage before Faith’s passing on November 17, 2024. Together they built a life centered on family, faith, and service to others.
Charlie enjoyed a long and dedicated career, working for Eastman Kodak, Birds Eye Foods, Foster Wheeler Energy Corporation—where he spent 25 years—and later Riley Stoker in Erie, Pennsylvania, before retiring.
A man deeply committed to his community, Charlie was an active member of the Dansville United Methodist Church, where he faithfully served as a trustee. He was also a proud member of Daniel Goho Post #87 of the American Legion.
In retirement, Charlie embraced the game of golf, a sport he discovered later in life but quickly came to love. He played three times a week whenever possible, enjoying the camaraderie of the Brae Burn Men’s Golf League, the former Foster Wheeler Golf League, and many rounds with friends. During the winter months, he enjoyed bowling, and in earlier years he generously volunteered his time coaching Vince Lombardi Football, leading the C Team to an undefeated season.
In addition to his wife, Faith, Charlie was predeceased by his siblings, William Hagan, Mary Evans, Geraldine Watson, and Sue Goho.
He is lovingly remembered by his children, Dawn (Wayne) Rader of Arkport and Kevin (Pamela) Hagan of Overland Park, Kansas; his grandchildren, Desiree (Burton) Weldy, Danielle Royce, Zechariah (Emily) Rader, Ella Hagan, and Riley Hagan; and his great-grandchildren, Cierra Bosley, Karissa Royce, Dakota Every, Katarina Weldy, Hannah Weldy, Hailey Weldy, Carter Weldy, Andrew Rader, Jade Rader, and Vaeda Houk. He is also survived by his sister-in-law, Patricia Tallman-Lyman; his brothers-in-law, Sherman Sanford and Howard Perrine; and many cherished nieces, nephews, cousins, and dear friends.
Family and friends are invited to call from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, July 25, 2026, at Dansville United Methodist Church, 5 Chestnut Avenue, Dansville, NY 14437. A funeral service celebrating Charlie’s life will begin at 1:00 p.m. at the church, officiated by Lay Pastor Carmen Vianese, with a luncheon to follow.
Burial, with full military honors, will take place at Union Cemetery in Dalton.
Charlie’s legacy is one of faith, quiet strength, unwavering devotion to his family, and a life lived in service to his country, his church, and his community. He will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered.
