Charles F. Decker

Montezuma, NY June 22, 2026 Age 93

Charles F. Decker, 93, of Montezuma, passed away peacefully in the comfort of his home, surrounded by his loving family on Monday, June 22, 2026.

He was born in Sennett, the son of the late Wesley and Sarah (Stahl) Decker and had been an area life resident of Montezuma. Charlie, as he was affectionately known by family and friends, was a staff sergeant in the US Army during the Korean War, serving our country honorably. He retired from Barr Transportation after many years of service. He previously drove truck for Sunny Crest and Cayuga Bulk. Charlie was the last living charter member of the Montezuma V.F.W. Local Union Post 8137 and a member of the American Legion in Port Byron. He enjoyed watching NASCAR, especially his favorite driver Dale Earnhardt Sr., camping, playing cards, and tending to his yard. Above everything, Charlie loved spending quality time with his family and friends. His infectious laugh and charismatic personality, as well as his many stories and jokes, will forever be remembered and held closely in the hearts of those that knew and loved him.

He is survived by his loving wife of 62 years, Nancy (Smith) Decker; two daughters, Karen (Daniel) Savarese and Kathy (Dennis) Lapp Sr.; four grandchildren, Jason Sakowski, Sara Sheffield, Dennis (Amanda) Lapp Jr., and Jarid Lapp; three great-grandchildren, Connor, Jaina, and Benny; several nieces, nephews, cousins, and beloved canine friend Roxy.

In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by seven siblings: Ruth Kunkle, Howard Decker, Eva Hutchings, Barbara Seigmyre, Elizabeth Sholes, Wesley Decker Jr., and William Decker.

A private service will be held at the convenience of the family. A celebration of Charlie’s life will be held in the coming weeks at a date and time that will be announced for family and friends.
