Montour Falls/Dundee: Caroline A. Stalter, age 78, of Montour Falls, NY, passed away on Wednesday, July 2, 2014, in the comfort of her home after a long courageous battle with cancer. Friends are invited to say their goodbyes from 5-7 pm Wednesday (July 9) at the Baird Funeral Home, 36 Water Street, Dundee, where her funeral service will be held at 7:00 pm with Rev. Lucinda O'Leary officiating. In lieu of flowers, she wishes for memorial contributions to be made to CareFirst, 11751 E. Corning Rd., Corning, NY 14830-3657.

Caroline was born on July 9, 1935, in Butler, NJ, the daughter of the late Harry and Anna Brannin Fredericks. On July 31, 1961, in Elton, Maryland, she married the late Harry L. Stalter, who passed away on May 6, 2003. She has lived locally since 1964, previously of Bloomingdale, NJ. Caroline was the owner of the former Caroline's Diner in Montour Falls from 1979 to 1984. She retired in 2011 due to her health after 15 years working at the Crossing Diner in Dundee, NY. She was a member of Montour Falls Ladies of the Moose Lodge #426, the Wayne American Legion Meade-Price Post 1208 Ladies Auxiliary, and the Dundee V.F.W. Goodrich-Smith Post #8649 Ladies Auxiliary.

In her spare time, she loved time at the lake, vacations to Myrtle Beach, reading, crochet, playing cards, and hand-held games, and watching the meerkats and Andy Griffith reruns on TV. She is loved and will be dearly missed by devoted companion since 2006, Eugene F. Westrick Sr., with whom she made her home; a son, Leonard "Lenny" R. (Sally Nemier) Gould of Irelandville, NY; two "daughters," Ella (Bryan) Plain of Poughkeepsie, NY, and Dana (Patrick) Heifferon of Elmira; six grandchildren; eleven great-grandchildren; several nieces, nephews; and countless friends and co-workers. She will be forever loved by her best friend, who she loved like a sister, Tara Boudinot of Dundee, and her four-legged friend, Daisy.

Besides her parents and husband, she was pre-deceased by a son, William David Gould Stalter, in 1986. Online condolences can be sent by visiting www.bairdfuneralhomedundee.com.
