Carol A. Michener

Carol Ann Michener, 88, passed away peacefully in Montour Falls, NY on June 20, 2026. Suzanne Michener, her beloved sister-in-law and caregiver over the past several years, was by her side when she was greeted by her Savior Jesus.

Carol was born December 1, 1938 in Norfolk, VA to her teenage mother. After entering into foster care, Carol was adopted by Thomas and Hazel Byrns. In 1995, Carol's birth mother, Irene Van Austin, found her after searching for her lifetime. Irene never had other children. One look at Irene and there was no doubt the two were mother and daughter. They reunited and were able to spend 10 years catching up and celebrating life together before Irene's death in 2004.

Carol married the love of her life, Donald Michener, in 1995. They enjoyed traveling to see family, dancing, and good times with friends. Don preceded Carol in death on December 14, 2022. Carol was also preceded in death by her parents, Thomas and Hazel Byrns, and her daughter Tammy Michelle Hanley.

Carol is survived by her sons, James T. Greer (Joanie), Jeffrey A. Greer (Jessica), and Gregory W. Greer; her son-in-law Denis Hanley (Bonnie); grandchildren Ryan Hanley (Gabie), Matthew Hanley, Allison Greer Lumpkin, Elle Greer, Sydney Greer, Casey Greer, Avery Greer Melton (Chris), Mason Greer, Niki Clancy; and great-grandchildren Zella Lumpkin, Jack Clancy, Emma Clancy, and Greyson Hanley.
