Rock Stream: Carl A. Heller Jr., age 79, of Rock Stream, NY, died Sunday, February 16, 2014, at Schuyler Hospital in Montour Falls, N.Y. Friends may call from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. Monday (Mar. 3) at the Baird Funeral Home, 36 Water Street, Dundee, where a Catholic funeral service will be held at 1:00 p.m. with Father Leo Reinhardt officiating. Burial will be in Holy Cross Cemetery, Watkins Glen. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Dundee American Legion Bradley-Jessop Post #660, 10 Spring St., Dundee, NY 14837.

Carl was born October 27, 1934, in Waterloo, NY, the son of the late Carl A. and Jennie Frantz Heller Sr. He graduated from Waterloo High School in 1952 and graduated from Freeman Business School in Geneva. He served in the U.S. Army from 1954 to 1957 as a Radio Operator, with the last 2 years in Kyoto, Japan. On April 2, 1977, in Dundee, N.Y., he married the former Mary R. (Bartusiak) West. He spent the better part of his career of 31 years with Seneca Foods Corp. in Dundee, NY, retiring in 1999. He joined the American Legion in 1975, serving as Dundee Post 660 Commander, Treasurer, and Yates County Commander. He was a member of 40/8 Voiture 698, serving as local Chef Commander and Grande NY Cheminot. He was also a member of St. Mary's of the Lake in Watkins Glen.

He is survived by 2 sons, David B. (Ilene) Heller and Steven M. Heller, both of San Diego, CA; 2 step-sons, Norman A. (Bethany) West, with whom he made his home, and Noel E. (Patricia) West of Northport, FL; 6 grandchildren, Alex, Breanna, and Juliann West, Danielle, Dillan, and Desiree Isterling; several nieces, nephews, in-laws, and friends. He was predeceased by his lovely wife of 27 years, Mary, in 2004; a brother, Paul Heller; and 2 sisters, Jane Osborn and Mary O'Loughlin.
