Tyrone: Byron M. Metris, age 61, of Bath, NY, died Tuesday, January 21, 2014, at his home in Bath, NY. Honoring his wishes, there were no prior calling hours. A Celebration of his Life was held at the Tyrone Fire Dept on January 22, 2014. Inurnment will be private at the convenience of the family. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions would be graciously accepted to help with expenses.

Byron was born October 18, 1952, in Youngtown, OH, the son of George A. and the late Helen J. Willie Metris. He graduated from Clintondale High School in Michigan in 1970. On November 28, 1985, in Watkins Glen, he married the former Sherrie K. Biscorner, whom he had been in love with since 1981. He returned to college late in life and received his A.S. Degree in Business Administration from Corning Community College in 1994. A mechanic all of his life, he worked for various car dealerships and eventually became fleet mechanic for Pepsi in Elmira, NY. Health issues forced a career change, and he became an employment specialist with the A.R.C. of Steuben until 2013.

Mr. Metris was an avid bowler and member of the Gummers League in Hornell and the Mane Design League in Bath, and was an EMT-D with the Tyrone Fire Department. He is survived by his wife of 28 years, Sherrie K. Metris of Tyrone; 7 children, Angela M. (Sergio) Santi of Romeo, MI, Khristina I. (Roy) Sanchez of Germantown Hills, IL, Jessica M. (Juan) Hardin of Raleigh, NC, Nicholas L. (Laura Riddle) Metris, Becky J. (Aaron) Mathews, all of Watkins Glen, Jennifer K. (Ken Price) Metris of Tyrone, Matthew G. (Heather Woodworth) Metris, also of Watkins Glen; 21 grandchildren; his father, George A. Metris of Savona; 2 brothers, Randy Metris of Tyrone, Timothy Metris of Penn Yan; a sister, Tammy (Joseph) Dombroski of Tyrone; and numerous nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his mother, Helen J. Metris, on January 2, 2003.
