Bob Hubbard
Robert F. Hubbard, age 84, a lifelong resident of Naples, passed away peacefully surrounded by his loving family on Monday, July 13, 2026, at the Hospeace House.
Bob was born on November 25, 1941, in Rochester, New York, to the late Francis and Ethel (Flannery) Hubbard. He answered the call to serve his country by enlisting in the United States Army. He proudly served in active duty from January 13, 1959, until receiving an honorable discharge on March 12, 1962. Bob then enlisted in the US Army Reserves on March 13, 1962, until his retirement. His military service shaped a lifelong dedication to patriotism, service, and supporting his fellow veterans. For over 50 years, Bob was in the Operating Engineers Local 832 in Rochester.
Bob's commitment to his country was matched only by his unwavering devotion to the Naples community he loved. Throughout his life, he believed in giving back and worked tirelessly to make his hometown a better place. As a young man, he volunteered with the Naples Hose Company, beginning a lifetime of public service. He later served as Commander of both the Naples VFW Post 8726 and American Legion Post 810, where he became a steadfast advocate for veterans and their families.
Bob was instrumental in preserving and honoring the sacrifices of those who served. He played a key role in the dedication of the cannon at the Naples VFW and was one of the driving forces behind the creation of the James R. Moore Memorial Park. Whether organizing projects, lending a helping hand, or ensuring veterans were never forgotten, Bob's leadership left a lasting mark on Naples. He was often described as a "Veteran of all Veterans"—a title earned through decades of selfless service, tireless advocacy, and genuine compassion for those who wore the uniform. His legacy will live on in the memorials he helped create, the organizations he strengthened, and the countless veterans whose lives he touched.
Outside of his community service, Bob found great joy in the outdoors. He was an avid fisherman and hunter who cherished time spent on the St. Lawrence River and the waters of Keuka, Canandaigua, and Hemlock Lakes. He enjoyed hunting deer, bear, waterfowl, and even red squirrels, embracing every opportunity to be in nature.
Bob was also an enthusiastic student of history. He especially enjoyed reading about and watching documentaries on military history, with particular interests in the Revolutionary War, the Battle of Gettysburg, and World War II. He also loved cooking for family and friends and took great pride in preparing meals on his smoker, creating memories around the table as easily as he did through his service.
Bob was predeceased by his parents, Francis and Ethel Hubbard, and by his loyal canine companion, Jessie.
He is survived by his loving and devoted wife of 47 years, Diane F. (Northrup) Hubbard; his children, Mike (Tracey) Hubbard and Kelly (Shawn) Herrick; his cherished grandsons, Zach, Jeremiah, Ethan, and Gavin; his cousins, Kathy Ernisse and Barbara (Ken) Milliman; and his faithful dog, Sassi.
The family extends their heartfelt gratitude to the staff of the Naples Hospeace House for the exceptional care, compassion, and dignity they provided to Bob and his loved ones during his final days. They also wish to express their sincere appreciation to Brittany Tierson for her unwavering love and support, as well as for her thoughtful assistance in helping carry out Bob's final wishes.
Family and friends are invited to celebrate Bob's remarkable life beginning at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, July 25, 2026, at the Naples VFW. Full military honors will be rendered at 1:30 p.m.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Bob's memory to the Naples Hospeace House, online at HospeaceHouse.org or by mail to 7824 County Road 33, Naples, NY 14512.
Bob's greatest legacy was not found in the titles he held or the honors he received, but in the countless lives he touched through a lifetime of service.
